Tool data stays on your device

The large majority of tools on UtilityBase run client-side in your browser. Text you paste, images you upload, numbers you enter, and audio or video streams from your microphone and camera are processed locally and are never transmitted to or stored on our servers. When you close the tab, that data is gone unless you chose to download a result.

Tools that connect to an external service

A small number of tools need live data from a third party to work, for example the currency and crypto converters (exchange rates and prices), DNS lookup (the domain you query), the "what is my IP" tool (your public IP and its approximate location), the sunrise/sunset calculator (the city you search), and the URL shortener. Each of these tools is labeled on its own page. For these tools, the specific data needed to fulfill your request is sent over the network to the relevant service; we don't require an account and we don't log or store your queries. The URL shortener passes your link through a lightweight proxy on our own server so the request can reach the shortening provider. The link is forwarded, not stored.

Local storage

To make the site more useful, we store a few things in your browser's localStorage: your favorited tools, recently used tools, recent searches, and whether you've given feedback on a tool. This data never leaves your browser and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

Analytics

We may use privacy-focused analytics to understand which tools are used and how often, in aggregate. This includes events like page views, tool usage, and search queries. We do not build individual profiles and we do not sell data.

Advertising

The site displays advertising to keep the tools free. We use Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on those visits.

You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. Sponsored listings on this site are always labeled as such.

Feedback you submit

If you use the feedback buttons, suggest a tool, or report an issue, the text you submit (and your email, if you choose to include it) is stored so we can act on it. Don't include sensitive personal information in these forms.
