Frequently asked questions

How do binaural beats work?

Each ear hears a slightly different frequency — say 200 Hz and 210 Hz — and the brain perceives a third, pulsing tone at the 10 Hz difference. This perceived beat only happens when the two tones are kept separate, which is why headphones are essential.

Which frequency should I use?

Lower beat frequencies (delta and theta, roughly 1–7 Hz) are associated with sleep and deep relaxation; alpha (around 8–12 Hz) with calm focus; and beta and gamma (higher) with alertness and concentration. The presets set sensible base and beat frequencies for each.

Do binaural beats actually work?

The research is mixed and effects vary by person, so they're best treated as a pleasant, low-effort background aid for focus or winding down rather than a guaranteed result. They're safe to try at a comfortable volume.

About this tool

The binaural beats generator plays a slightly different tone in each ear so your brain perceives a pulsing beat at their difference. Set any base frequency and beat frequency, or pick a preset in the delta, theta, alpha, beta, or gamma range for sleep, meditation, relaxed focus, or concentration. A sleep timer fades the sound out and stops it after the time you set. Binaural beats require stereo headphones, since each ear must hear its own tone. Everything is generated in your browser with the Web Audio API.

Like most tools on UtilityBase, the binaural beats generator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server. It's free to use with no account required. Browse more productivity tools here.
