Match the paper it might be printed on: US Letter for the US and Canada, A4 nearly everywhere else — a mismatch causes shrink-to-fit or clipped margins at print time. 'Fit each image' makes pages exactly the image's size, which looks best for screen-only PDFs like photo collections and design references.

PNGs are embedded losslessly. Other formats are normalized to high-quality JPEG (92%), which is visually indistinguishable for photos and scans. What matters more for legibility is the source: a sharp, well-lit photo of a page converts into a readable document; a blurry one converts into a blurry document — PDF is a container, not an enhancer.

Add the photos in order (or fix the order with the arrows), pick A4 or Letter, keep the default margin, and convert. For best 'scanned' results, shoot straight-on in even light and crop to the page first — our image cropper works locally too. Portrait pages with modest margins read most like a real scan.

PDFs behave predictably where images don't: portals and application systems often require them, one file beats twelve attachments, page order is fixed, printing is paginated correctly, and recipients can't accidentally get a down-scaled thumbnail. For receipts, contracts, IDs, and homework, PDF is the format bureaucracy speaks.
