Frequently asked questions

Is the draw actually fair?

Yes. Each pick uses a cryptographically secure random index, so every name has an identical probability. There's no weighting and no pattern.

Can I draw several winners without repeats?

Yes — set the number of winners, or enable remove-after-draw to pull winners out of the pool between successive draws.

What does shuffle do?

Shuffle randomly reorders the entire list (a Fisher–Yates shuffle) — perfect for setting a random speaking or playing order rather than picking a single winner.

Are the names I paste stored anywhere?

No. The list exists only in your browser tab and disappears when you close or clear the page.

About this tool

The random name picker draws winners from any list: paste names one per line, choose how many to pick, and draw. Winners are selected with the browser's cryptographically secure random source, so every entry has an exactly equal chance. Options let you remove winners from the pool after each draw (for successive prizes) and shuffle the entire list into a random order — useful for assigning presentation slots or team order. Names never leave your browser.

Like everything on UtilityBase, the random name picker runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server. It's free to use with no account required. Browse more generators here.
