Frequently asked questions

How is sales commission calculated?

Multiply your sales amount by the commission rate as a percentage. On $50,000 in sales at 8%, the commission is $4,000. Add any flat bonus or base pay for total earnings; this tool does all of that at once.

What is base plus commission?

A pay structure with a fixed salary (the base) plus commission on top. It gives a steady floor while still rewarding sales. Straight commission has no base — you earn only on what you sell — which this calculator also handles by leaving base at zero.

Can it handle tiered commission?

This tool uses a single flat rate. For tiered plans, where sales above a threshold earn a higher rate, calculate each tier's sales at its rate separately and add the results. The flat-rate result is exact for the common single-rate plan.

About this tool

The sales commission calculator works out total earnings from a sales figure and commission rate, plus any flat bonus and base pay. It shows the commission on sales, the bonus-plus-base, your total, and the effective rate — your total as a percentage of sales, which is useful for comparing plans. It handles a single flat rate; tiered plans (a higher rate above a quota) can be figured tier by tier and added. Everything is calculated in your browser.

Like most tools on UtilityBase, the sales commission calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server. It's free to use with no account required. Browse more calculators here.
