How to Add and Subtract Time

Time does not follow the base-ten rules we use for ordinary numbers. There are 60 minutes in an hour and 60 seconds in a minute, so when a sum of minutes passes 60 you have to carry an hour, not a ten. That base-60 carrying is where most manual errors creep in, especially when several durations are added together.
