In a Secret Santa, everyone in a group is secretly assigned one other person to buy a gift for, usually with a set spending limit. The fun is that no one knows who has them until the gifts are opened. It's a popular way for offices, families, and friend groups to exchange gifts without everyone buying for everyone.

The one rule that makes it work: nobody can draw their own name. Assigning names so that everyone gives and receives exactly once, with no self-matches, is what a generator handles for you.
