Frequently asked questions

How does the EZ Grader work?

Enter the total number of questions and how many the student got wrong. The score is the number correct divided by the total, times 100. For 3 wrong out of 20, that's 17/20 = 85%, a B.

Can I grade a whole class quickly?

Yes. Enter the test length once and read the grade chart, which lists the percentage and letter for every possible number wrong. Then you only need to glance at each paper's mistake count to assign its grade.

What grading scale does it use?

It uses the standard US letter scale, where 90 and up is an A range, 80s a B, and so on, with plus and minus cutoffs. School scales vary, so check yours if your cutoffs differ.

About this tool

The EZ Grader turns a number of questions and a number wrong into a score instantly: it divides the correct answers by the total and gives the percentage and letter grade. It also builds a full grade chart showing the score for every possible number missed on a test of that length, so you can grade a whole stack of papers at a glance or see exactly what one more mistake costs. It's the teacher's quick grading tool, free and with no sign-up. Everything is calculated in your browser.

Like most tools on UtilityBase, the ez grader runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server. It's free to use with no account required. Browse more calculators here.
