Frequently asked questions
How is the love percentage actually calculated?
By the genuine notebook method: write both names, count how many times each letter of L, O, V, E, S appears across them, and write those five counts as a digit string. Then repeatedly add each pair of adjacent digits (splitting sums over 9 into their digits) to build the next row, until only two digits remain — that's your percentage. The full pyramid of rows is displayed so you can check it with pencil and paper, which is half the fun.
Is there any science behind this?
None whatsoever, and this page won't pretend otherwise. Letter frequencies in names predict nothing about human compatibility — the score is a deterministic arithmetic artifact of spelling. It's worth saying because some love-calculator sites dress the output in pseudo-astrological seriousness. This is a nostalgic playground game, implemented faithfully, for entertainment: fun to compare, funny to argue about, meaningless to act on. Real compatibility is built, not computed.
Why do I get the same score every time?
Because the algorithm is pure arithmetic on the letters — no randomness anywhere — so identical names always yield identical scores, exactly like the paper version. That's a feature: scores are consistent and arguable ('we got 74% and you got 31%') rather than slot-machine noise. The corollary: rerolling won't budge it, but nicknames legitimately change the letters, and whether 'using your full name' is fair is the traditional playground dispute.
Are the names I enter stored or shared?
No — the calculation runs entirely in your browser, and nothing you type is sent, logged, or stored anywhere. Close the tab and it never happened. That's worth stating even for a toy, because crush names are genuinely private information (arguably the most classified data a middle-schooler possesses), and plenty of novelty sites harvest exactly this kind of input for tracking. Here even your love life is nobody's business.
About this tool
The love calculator implements the real paper-and-pencil game from school notebooks: count how often each letter of L-O-V-E-S appears across both names, then add adjacent digits row by row until two remain — that's the percentage, and the working is shown so you can verify it by hand the way it was always meant to be done. It's deterministic (same names produce the same score forever, so rerolling won't help you), it fills a heart to your percentage, and it contains exactly zero science — which the page says plainly, because this site doesn't do fake mystique. The names you type never leave your device.
Like most tools on UtilityBase, the love calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server. It's free to use with no account required. Browse more generators here.
