They answer different questions. The live countdown measures exact time to midnight of the target date — at 11 PM tonight, tomorrow is 0 days 1 hour away. Calendar days counts date boundaries — tomorrow is 1 day away all day today, which is what people mean by 'days until'. Both are shown because event planning uses calendar days while anticipation watches the clock.

By its actual rule: the fourth Thursday of November, which floats between the 22nd and 28th. The preset computes the next occurrence — this year's if it hasn't passed, next year's if it has — the same way all presets roll over automatically, so the Christmas button on December 26th correctly targets next year.

Because for anything requiring free time — moving, studying, wedding prep, a side project deadline — weekends are the real budget, and '6 weekends left' lands differently than '45 days'. The count is Saturdays between today and the target, i.e., full weekends you can still use.

It counts to midnight in your device's local time zone, which is the natural meaning of 'days until my birthday'. For an event in another time zone (a game launch at midnight Tokyo time), the count here can differ by up to a day from the event's local moment — the time zone converter translates the exact instant.
