How to use the countdown timer

Frequently asked questions
Will the alarm sound if I'm in another tab?
Yes, as long as this tab stays open — the alarm plays and the tab title shows the countdown so you can glance at it. If the tab is closed, the timer ends with it.
Why do I need to interact with the page before the alarm can play?
Browsers block sound until a page has received a user interaction. Starting the timer counts as that interaction, so the alarm will play normally.
Can I pause and resume?
Yes. Pause freezes the remaining time; Resume continues from exactly where you paused. Reset returns to your original duration.
Is 25 minutes the Pomodoro preset?
Yes — 25 minutes of focused work followed by a short break is the classic Pomodoro rhythm, and the 25-minute preset is there for exactly that.
About this tool
The countdown timer counts down from any duration and plays an audible alarm when it reaches zero. Quick presets (1, 5, 10, 25 minutes) cover the common cases including a Pomodoro-length focus block, and the remaining time is shown in the browser tab title so you can see it from any other tab. The countdown is computed from a real end timestamp, so it stays accurate in background tabs, and the alarm tone is generated locally with the Web Audio API.
