Frequently asked questions

Does the stopwatch stay accurate if I switch tabs?

Yes. Elapsed time is calculated from the real start timestamp, so even if the browser slows down the display in a background tab, the time shown when you return is exact.

What's the difference between lap time and split time?

The split is total elapsed time when you pressed Lap; the lap time is the duration since the previous lap. The lap list shows both.

What are the keyboard shortcuts?

Space starts and stops, L records a lap while running, and R resets when stopped.

How precise is it?

The display updates with centisecond (0.01s) resolution and the underlying measurement uses the browser's high-resolution clock, which is more than sufficient for manual timing.

About this tool

The stopwatch measures elapsed time with centisecond precision and records lap times with per-lap splits, so you can time intervals within a longer session. Because it computes elapsed time from real timestamps rather than counting ticks, it stays accurate even when the tab is in the background. Keyboard shortcuts (Space to start/stop, L for lap, R for reset) make it usable without looking away from what you're timing.

Like everything on UtilityBase, the stopwatch runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server. It's free to use with no account required. Browse more productivity tools here.
