Frequently asked questions
Where is my note actually stored?
In your browser's localStorage on this device — a small storage area websites can use that never leaves your machine. It survives refreshes, tab closes, and restarts. It does not sync between devices or browsers, because there's no server involved.
Can my note be lost?
Two ways: clearing this site's browser data deletes it, and private/incognito windows discard storage when closed. For anything important, hit the .txt download — it takes one click and makes the note permanent.
How much can I write?
Browsers allot localStorage around 5 MB per site — roughly a million words of plain text. You'll never hit it with notes; if you're writing a novel, you deserve a real editor (but download your draft here first).
Is this private enough for sensitive notes?
The note never leaves your device, which beats any cloud notes app on transmission privacy. But anyone using this browser profile on this computer can open the page and see it — so treat it as private to the device, not encrypted.
About this tool
The online notepad is a clean writing surface that autosaves to your browser's local storage half a second after you stop typing — close the tab, restart the computer, come back next week, and your note is still there. No account, no sync service reading your text, no server at all: the note lives on your device and nowhere else. Live word, character, and line counts sit in the toolbar with an adjustable font size, and one click downloads everything as a .txt file. It's the fastest way to jot something down when opening a full editor feels like overkill — and unlike a random sticky-note app, it's already open in your browser.
Like everything on UtilityBase, the online notepad runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server. It's free to use with no account required. Browse more productivity tools here.
