Frequently asked questions
What is Zulu time?
Zulu time is Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), denoted by the phonetic letter Z. It has no offset and no daylight saving, so a Zulu time means the same instant everywhere on earth — which is why the military and aviation use it to avoid time-zone confusion in orders and flight plans.
How do I convert Zulu to my local time?
Apply your local UTC offset: if you're at UTC-5, then 1400Z is 0900 local. This tool does it automatically and also accounts for daylight saving, since your offset changes across the year. Enter the Zulu time and it shows your local equivalent and other zones.
What do the time-zone letters mean?
Each 15-degree band of longitude has a phonetic letter. Zones east of UTC use A through M and zones west use N through Y, with Z reserved for UTC itself. So Zulu is UTC, and a briefing set in Zulu removes any ambiguity about which local zone is meant.
About this tool
The Zulu time meeting planner converts between Zulu time (UTC, the offset-free reference the military and aviation use) and local time. Enter a time and choose whether it's Zulu or your local time, and it shows the Zulu time plus the equivalent across major US and allied time zones, with daylight saving handled automatically for each. It's built for coordinating a briefing, op order, or call when everyone must agree on one unambiguous time. Runs entirely in your browser, nothing uploaded.
Like most tools on UtilityBase, the zulu time meeting planner runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server. It's free to use with no account required. Browse more productivity tools here.
