Frequently asked questions

How many travel days do I get for a PCS?

The JTR standard for driving is one travel day per 350 miles of official distance, with any remainder rounding up and a minimum of one day. So 350 miles is 1 day, 700 miles is 2, and 800 miles is 3. These are paid at the applicable per-diem rate.

Which mileage should I use?

Use the official distance on your orders — the government-computed mileage between duty stations — not a mapping-app number. Finance calculates your entitlement from the official distance, so entering that gives the figure that matches your travel voucher.

Are travel days the same as leave?

No. Travel days are duty days for the move itself, paid per diem. Proceed time and any leave you take en route are separate and counted differently. Check your orders for authorized proceed time and how leave en route is charged.

About this tool

The PCS travel days calculator applies the Joint Travel Regulations rule for a move by privately owned vehicle: one authorized travel day for every 350 miles of official distance, rounding any remainder up, with a minimum of one day. Enter the ordered mileage and it returns your travel days, which are paid at the per-diem rate and are separate from proceed time or en-route leave. Use the government-computed distance on your orders rather than a map estimate, since that's the figure finance uses. A planning estimate; your orders and voucher govern the actual authorization. Runs in your browser.

Like most tools on UtilityBase, the pcs travel days calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server. It's free to use with no account required. Browse more calculators here.
