Frequently asked questions

What counts as a business day?

A business day is a weekday, Monday through Friday, when most offices, banks, and shipping operate. Weekends are excluded, and public holidays that fall on a weekday are usually excluded too. This tool counts weekdays and lets you subtract holidays.

Are the start and end dates included?

Yes, both are counted. A range from Monday to Friday of the same week is five business days. If you need an exclusive count (say, days after an order date), subtract one, or set the start to the following day.

Why enter holidays as a number?

Public holidays differ by country, state, and year, so a fixed list would be wrong for many users. Instead, count the holidays that land on weekdays within your range and enter that number; the tool subtracts them from the weekday total for an accurate working-day count.

About this tool

The business days calculator counts the weekdays — Monday through Friday — between two dates, the basis for delivery windows, deadlines, and payroll periods. It includes both the start and end dates, separates weekdays from weekend days, and lets you subtract public holidays that fall on weekdays for a true working-day total. It also shows total calendar days and weekend days for context. Holidays vary by country, so they're entered as a count rather than a fixed list. Everything is computed locally in your browser.

Like most tools on UtilityBase, the business days calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server. It's free to use with no account required. Browse more calculators here.
