What is the difference between TIS and TIG?
Time in Service (TIS) is your total creditable service measured from your Pay Entry Base Date, and it determines your longevity pay step. Time in Grade (TIG) is how long you have held your current rank, measured from your Date of Rank, and it is used for promotion eligibility. They are different clocks used for different things.
What is a PEBD?
Your Pay Entry Base Date is the date from which your pay-related time in service is counted. It usually matches the day you entered service, but a break in service, prior enlisted time, or certain adjustments can move it, so it can differ from your actual ship date. Use the PEBD printed on your LES for an accurate result.
When does my pay go up for time in service?
Basic pay increases at set longevity marks: 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, and 26 years, with further steps for very long careers. The tool shows the date of your next mark and how many days away it is. The dollar amount depends on your grade and the current pay tables.
